When it comes to any outdoor recreation, layering is always a balance one has to find. This can be especially tricky in extremely cold environments where the consequences are usually immediate and harsh. What questions do you have about cold weather layering for winter camping/mountaineering/backcountry skiing and what systems have worked well for you?

I'm also curious about feet swelling and would love to hear others' experiences!!
I have a question! I have extremely poor circulation in my feet and am constantly needing to stop and warm up my feet during a ski day, even when I'm touring and sweating everywhere else. I am considering buying hotronic boot warmers, but would love to try less expensive options if folks have recommendations. Or if people have heated socks or boots for mountaineering, what have you found as the lighter weight, easily chargable, funcitonal warmers??
Also wondering what works for people using ski boots on high-altitude mountaineering trips. I am also considering blowing out the plastic of my ski boots to allow for more space so my feet can swell without cutting off circulation in a normally well-fitting boot. I'm just not sure how much my feet will swell and don't want to blow out my boots so much that it compromises my ability to ski technical conditions.
Taking any advice people have! Thanks. -Auri
